👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Prepare the Steak Mixture
Place the ground beef in a large mixing bowl. Add the breadcrumbs, egg, diced onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, salt, black pepper, and fresh parsley.
Mix everything gently with your hands or a wooden spoon until the ingredients are evenly combined.
Be careful not to overmix the meat because this can make the Salisbury steaks too firm instead of tender.
  2. Shape the Steaks
Divide the mixture into 4–6 portions, depending on the size you prefer.
Shape each portion into a thick oval-shaped steak. Press the meat gently so that it holds together, but don’t pack it too tightly.
Set the shaped steaks aside while you prepare the skillet.
  3. Brown the Salisbury Steaks
Heat the olive oil in a large heavy skillet over medium-high heat.
Carefully place the Salisbury steaks into the hot skillet.
Cook for approximately 3–4 minutes on the first side, until nicely browned. Flip them carefully and brown the other side for another 3–4 minutes.
The steaks don’t need to be completely cooked through at this stage because they will finish cooking in the gravy.
Remove the steaks from the skillet and place them on a plate.
  4. Make the Caramelized Onion Gravy
Using the same skillet, add the butter and sliced onions.
Cook the onions over medium heat for several minutes, stirring occasionally, until they become soft, golden, and caramelized.
Add the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds, just until fragrant.
Sprinkle the flour over the onions and stir continuously for about one minute. This helps create a smooth gravy.
Slowly pour in the beef broth while whisking or stirring constantly to prevent lumps.
Add Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, onion powder, and black pepper.
Allow the gravy to simmer gently until it becomes rich and slightly thickened.
  5. Return the Steaks to the Gravy
Carefully place the browned Salisbury steaks back into the skillet.
Spoon some of the hot gravy over the top of each steak.
Reduce the heat to medium-low, cover the skillet, and allow the steaks to simmer gently for approximately 10–15 minutes, or until they are completely cooked through.
The gravy will become even richer as the steak cooks.
  6. Add the Cheese
Once the steaks are cooked, place a slice of cheese over each one.
Cover the skillet for another 1–2 minutes.
The heat from the steak and gravy will gently melt the cheese until it becomes soft, creamy, and beautifully gooey.
Sprinkle freshly chopped parsley over the melted cheese for a fresh finishing touch.
    🥔 Creamy Mashed Potatoes
  7. Boil the Potatoes
Place the peeled and chopped potatoes into a large pot.
Cover them completely with cold water and add a generous pinch of salt.
Bring the water to a boil and cook the potatoes for approximately 15–20 minutes, or until they are completely tender when pierced with a fork.
  8. Drain and Mash
Drain the potatoes thoroughly and return them to the warm pot.
Add the butter and begin mashing.
Slowly add the warm milk and heavy cream while continuing to mash until the potatoes become smooth and creamy.
Season with salt and black pepper.
For extra flavor, you can add a small amount of garlic powder or another tablespoon of butter.
Avoid overmixing the potatoes, as this can make them sticky.
    🍽️ How to Serve
Spoon a generous portion of creamy mashed potatoes onto each plate.
Place one cheesy Salisbury steak beside or slightly on top of the potatoes.
Pour some of the rich brown onion gravy over the steak and allow a little gravy to run onto the mashed potatoes.
    Finish with freshly chopped parsley.
For the perfect presentation, serve the steak while it’s still hot so the cheese remains beautifully melted.
    🔥 The Final Result
When you cut into the Salisbury steak, you should see a tender, juicy center covered with rich gravy and melted cheese.
The creamy mashed potatoes soak up the savory gravy, creating the perfect combination of flavors in every bite.
The caramelized onions add sweetness, while the Worcestershire sauce and beef broth give the gravy a deep, savory flavor.
This is the kind of comforting homemade dinner that makes the whole kitchen smell incredible.
